What to Wear for a Boudoir Photoshoot (Phoenix Edition)

So you’ve booked your boudoir shoot (or maybe you’re this close to doing it) and now the big question hits: “What do I even wear?”

First of all, take a breath. You don’t need a fancy lingerie drawer or a runway-level wardrobe to look and feel amazing in your boudoir session. The truth is, the best outfits are the ones that make you feel confident, powerful, and sexy in your own skin.

Let’s break it all down.

Start With What You Love About Your Body

Before we talk about corsets or lace, let’s talk about you. What do you want to highlight?

  • Love your legs? Let’s show them off with a bodysuit or heels.
  • Obsessed with your curves? Try something sheer and fitted that hugs your waist.
  • Want to keep things more modest? A cozy sweater falling off the shoulder is just as stunning.

This shoot is about celebrating you, not squeezing into something that makes you feel awkward.

Client Closet Favorites (and Why They Work)

At my Phoenix studio, I have a curated client closet filled with pieces that photograph beautifully. These are a few client faves:

  • Black lace bodysuits – always timeless, always flattering.
  • Sheer robes – especially with feathers or satin trim. Think soft drama.
  • Matching bra + panty sets – go for a good fit over complicated details.
  • Oversized white button-down shirts – classic, casual, and super sensual.

And yes, you can absolutely wear a slouchy tee or a silky slip dress. Sometimes the simplest pieces tell the best stories.

1. Black Lace Bodysuit

Why it works: Timeless. Flattering. Sculpts the waist and photographs beautifully on everyone.

Where to shop:

Photo idea: Standing in window light, silhouette shot, hand on hip, chin slightly up — confidence on full display.

2. Sheer Robe, Lace Robe or Kimono

Why it works: It adds softness, movement, and a touch of drama. And guess what? We have a few of these at the studio that you can use when you book your session with us!

Where to shop:

Photo idea: Robe draped over the shoulders while sitting on the bed, feet tucked, with soft natural light and a moody expression.

3. Matching Bra & Panty Set

Why it works: Classic and easy to move in. Simplicity = strong photos.

Where to shop:

Photo idea: Lying on a velvet couch, arched back, one hand in hair, sultry gaze to the side.

4. Oversized Button-Up Shirt (White or Black)

Why it works: Casual and sexy, especially with nothing underneath or just a lacy bra.

Where to shop:

Photo idea: Shirt falling off one shoulder, sitting on the edge of a bed, hair tousled.

5. Something Personal or Playful

This one is your call. Bring something that makes your shoot feel like you.

Examples:

  • A leather jacket and nothing else
  • A sports jersey
  • A silk robe from your honeymoon
  • A favorite book or vinyl for storytelling
  • Maternity band and lace top if you’re doing a pregnancy shoot

Photo idea: Let me help you build a scene — candlelit studio, vinyl playing, or a steamy backlit silhouette. We’ll design a vibe around the item.

6. Heels + Accessories

Shoes and jewelry elevate every look — even a slouchy tee.

Bring:

  • Black or nude heels (pointed toe, open toe, or strappy work best)
  • Statement earrings or a dainty necklace
  • Thigh-high socks or stockings if you like a vintage vibe

Can I Go Nude or Topless?

Of course. But only if you want to.

Going topless, implied nude, or fully nude is totally up to you. We’ll never pressure you. Some clients show a lot, some show very little. It’s your call. And either way, you’ll still get stunning images that reflect your version of sexy.

Color Tips for Your Skin Tone and Mood

I always help my clients pick tones that flatter their skin and the studio lighting, but here’s a quick cheat sheet:

  • Neutrals like black, white, or nude: timeless and always a win.
  • Deep colors like burgundy, emerald, or navy: rich and romantic.
  • Brights like red or hot pink: bold, confident, and fun.
  • Pastels like blush or lavender: soft and feminine (but still powerful).

Pro tip: Avoid busy patterns or neon colors. They can distract from you.

Still Not Sure What to Wear?

If you’re feeling stuck, don’t worry. Every session comes with a wardrobe consultation, and I’ll help you choose pieces that fit your style and comfort level.

Some clients bring a suitcase full of options, others show up and use pieces from the studio closet. There’s no one right way to do this.

The real secret? Confidence > clothing. If you feel amazing in it, it’s the right thing to wear.
