15 Stunning Maternity Photoshoot Ideas

If you’re pregnant and searching for maternity photoshoot ideas that feel stylish, personal, and unforgettable, you’re in the right place. I’m Gabby, a maternity photographer based in Mesa, Arizona, and I’ve helped so many moms-to-be create photos they’re genuinely obsessed with.

Every session I do is customized, glam, and styled to perfection. But if you’re still figuring out what vibe you want, I’ve rounded up 15 of my favorite maternity photo ideas to spark inspiration, along with behind-the-scenes tips from my own studio.

1. Classic Studio Maternity Portraits

I love studio sessions because they give me full control over lighting, posing, and wardrobe. This is where we create that clean, editorial look that feels like it belongs in a magazine. Whether you’re going for something timeless in black or bold in emerald green, the studio is the perfect space to make it happen.

2. Golden Hour Outdoor Maternity Photos

There’s nothing like the Arizona sunset. If you’re drawn to warm, dreamy light and a more natural vibe, an outdoor golden hour session is a beautiful choice. I usually bring flowy gowns or fabrics to catch the breeze, and we time it just right to get that soft glow that flatters every mom! My favorite locations are Phon D Sutton in Mesa and South Mountain!

3. Romantic Photos with Your Partner

Including your partner adds such a sweet emotional layer. I guide couples with prompts that help them connect naturally. Whether it’s a hand on the belly, a quiet forehead kiss, or a shared laugh, those moments always photograph beautifully.

4. Cozy At-Home-Inspired Maternity Session

Sometimes we recreate that relaxed, intimate feel right inside the studio. Think soft robes, comfy textures, bare feet, and natural posing. We can make the studio look like home! These sessions are cozy, romantic, and capture those quiet, beautiful moments before baby arrives.

5. Timeless Black-and-White

I’m a huge fan of black and white maternity photos. They focus on shape, light, and emotion, and they always feel timeless. I love including a few of these in every session. They truly make you FEEL something special.

6. High-Fashion Editorial Maternity Look

If you’re into high fashion or just want to feel like a total icon for the day, we can go all in with statement gowns, bold backdrops, and dramatic lighting. These sessions are styled to perfection and are perfect for the mom who wants her maternity photos to feel like a Vogue spread.

7. Elegant Silhouette Shots

Silhouettes are simple but powerful. I use a special backlight setup to highlight your bump, creating a clean and artistic image that looks amazing printed large! Most of my clients purchase a 24×30 for their silhouettes and hang them in their living room.

8. Maternity Photos with Siblings

If you’ve got older kids, let’s include them. I’ve captured the sweetest moments of big brothers or sisters hugging the bump or looking up at mom with excitement. I keep it playful so the kids actually enjoy it and we get genuine smiles.

9. Draped Fabric for a Goddess-Like Look

This one’s a studio favorite!!! I use soft, flowing fabrics and drape them around your body to create movement and shape. Then, I use a fan or my assistant to throw the fabric and give it that FLYING effect. The way these images turn out is always stunning!

10. Nature-Inspired Maternity

This maternity session idea is perfect if you love a floral or organic look. My favorite spot for this would be Mesa Rose Garden in Mesa, AZ. There’s the perfect amount of green, plus the flowers when they bloom, look gorgeous!!

11. Matching Outfits

This one has to be one of my favorite ideas. Coordinating outfits can bring such a polished, cohesive feel to your images. Whether it’s matching neutrals for the whole family or a dress that complements your partner’s outfit, I help style everyone so you look great together without looking too matchy-matchy. (Although… the jeans and white tee look is a classic for a reason. Definitely a must-try if you’re into it!)

12. With Your Fur Babies

Pets are part of the family too, and including them in your maternity photos adds so much personality and fun. I’ve photographed dogs resting their heads on baby bumps, sitting proudly next to mom, or just bringing a little extra cuteness to the session. HOT TIP: Always bring a designated doggo sitter. They’ll help wrangle your fur baby when they’re not in the shot so you can focus on looking fabulous.

13. Seasonal Themes

I love tailoring sessions to the season. Whether it’s cozy sweaters and falling leaves in the fall, spring florals, or a touch of sparkle for the holidays, seasonal sessions feel extra special and completely unique to your journey.

14. Cultural and Heritage-Inspired

Some of the most powerful sessions I’ve done have included traditional outfits, cultural symbols, or nods to a family’s roots. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate who you are and where you come from while honoring this next chapter.

15. Boudoir Maternity

This session is for the mamas who want to celebrate their body and feel like an absolute goddess. Boudoir maternity sessions are all about confidence, curves, and embracing this chapter in a raw, beautiful way. We keep it classy, styled, and totally you. That could mean soft lace robes, draped fabric, or showing a little more skin. It’s not just about the photos. It’s about how you feel in the moment. And trust me, you’ll leave the studio feeling empowered and glowing.

These maternity photoshoot ideas are just the starting point. Your session will be completely customized to your vision, your style, and your comfort. I’ll guide you through wardrobe, makeup, posing, and all the little details so you feel confident and cared for.

And hey — if you’re in Arizona and want the full experience (glam squad, client closet, guided posing, and magazine-worthy edits)? You know where to find me. 😉
